Day by Day
1° Arrival in Passau.
The city of Passau, close to the Bavarian/Austrian border is also known as the "City of three Rivers” beceause it is on the confluence of Ilz, Inn and Danube rivers.
Boarding time is at 4:30 pm and departure around 7 pm. Enjoy your first dinner on board and an evening cruise to Engelhartszell.
2° Engelhartszell – Linz (35 km/ 20 miles)
Engelhartszell abbey is well-worth a visit. It is well-known for its lovely church its "healthy" Schnaps. To mix things up a bit, take the little ferry boat through the romantic Schlögener loop (approx. €3 p.p.) where the river makes a very abrupt 180-degree turn.
From Untermühl, you cruise to Linz. We recommend you take the yellow city express to explore this city, European Capital of Culture 2009. This takes about 30 minutes.
3° Linz – Grein (35- 40 km/20-25 miles)
In the morning you cruise to Mauthausen, where you can visit the Mauthausen Memorial and the celtic village of Mitterkirchen.
If you prefer to take the easy route, you can ride along the Danube. Sportive guests can choose the variant via Clam fortress, in the gorgeous hinterland of Strudengau.
Today's destination is Grein with his impressive Greinburg Castle.
4° Grein – Tulln (50 km/30 miles)
Today you’ll cycle throught the Strudengau - a narrow section of the Danube tricky to navigate. From Persenbeug, the valley starts to expand and the bike tour leads you to Melk with his baroque Benedictine abbey. Here you can return on board. On deck, enjoy the sunset during your cruise into Wachau Valley up to the city of Tulln.
5° Tulln – Vienna/Nußdorf or Korneuburg (35 km/20 miles)
Klosterneuburg abbey is located just outside Vienna. The dome of the 900-year-old baroque magnificent building is visible from afar, the Verdun Altar is one of the highlights of medieval goldsmith’s art. From the village of Kahlenbergerdorf it is worth a short hike through the vineyards to the panoramic terrace of the Kahlenberg. You will be rewarded with a beautiful view of the metropolis.
6° Vienna/Nußdorf or Korneuburg
Discover the vibrant city of Vienna today. The most famous sights like Stephansdom and Hofburg, the magnificent Ringstrasse boulevard with the Burgtheater, the State Opera and the
City hall are perhaps on your program? In the afternoon there is still enough time for a stroll or to visit one of the famous Viennese cafés. With a waltz and operetta concert, this eventful day could end with a great atmosphere. During the night your ship leaves Vienna for Dürnstein or Rossatz in the Wachau Valley.
7° Vienna/Nußdorf or Korneuburg – Pochlärn (40 km/25 miles)
The gentle hilly landscape with dreamy villages, wine terraces, castles, monasteries and ruins will enchant you.
The blue tower of the collegiate church of Dürnstein is a landmark of the Wachau. Cosy Heuriger, local taverns, next to the cycle path, will attract you to wine tasting. Enjoy a last look at the imposing Melk Abbey before your arrival in Pöchlarn where you can go back on board. In the evening festive farewell dinner.
During the night boat trip to Passau.
In the morning you can enjoy the first rays of sunshine on deck and the peaceful silence of the Danube valley. Around 10 am you reach Passau. Disembarkation from approx. 10:30 am.
Due to organisational reasons, weather conditions or warnings issued by local authorities, the itinerary may be subject to some changes before and/or during the holiday. Issues with high and low water, as well as logistic obstacles such as officially ordered - previously not announced - repair work on locks or bridges can modify some of the daily stretches or overnight stays and may even request a transfer by bus. These decisions are only taken by the boat’s captain.
The cycle path along the Danube is one of the most famous bike routes in Europe, thanks to the services that are offered along the way and because it is really very easy, completely flat and consisting in paved bike lanes or secondary roads. The only thing you might want to do is find out in advance which side of the river the town you want to visit is on. In fact, bridges and ferries are not always present.
