Good to know
To enter the coutry you will need to have a valid passport valid at least for six months after departure. You don’t need a tourist VISA for stays up to 15 day, if you were to stay longer you will have to obtain a VISA through the Vietnamese embassy in your own country.
Day by Day
1. Individual arrival in Hanoi and first overnight.
We will organize for you a transfer to the first hotel in the city centre. This town is a fascinating mix between eastern and western world, tradition and innovation and it invites you to dive in its lively and colourful streets together with your fellow travelers. Your walk through the city streets will end at the very traditional puppet theater on the water and you will have dinner at a local restaurant. After tha, time to go to sleep! you’re starting your cycle tour tomorrow!
2. Hanoi – Tam Coc (10/25 km)
Your day begins with a bus transfer to Ninh Binh (included) and from here you will start cycling amond rice fields until you reach Hoa Lu, the ancient capital of Vietnam. This town perspires history with its ancient buildings and pagodas. Cycling on surrounded by the green landscape you will have a chance to taste the local cuisine when you arrive the small village of Trang An Farm. Your next destination is Tam Coc with its limestone landscape over rice fields. Your afternoon will end with a boat ride to a secluded valley and a true bird paradise. Time to go back and rest in your hotel in Tam Coc.
3. Tam Coc – Ha Long bay
Today you will start with a 4 hour bus transfer (included) to the beautiful Ha Long bay, enjoying the view of the seaside scattered with large rocky islands. You will explore this magical bay aboard the Garden Bay, a typical Vietnamese sailing boat. This will be your floating hotel for the next couple of nights. Your welcome aboard is a fresh fish based lunch.In the afternoon you can chose whether to experiment a tour of the water caves by kayak or trekking to the top of Ti Top, with a breathtaking view over the whole area. Overnight aboard your Vietnamese barge.
4. Ha Long bay – Bai Tu Long bay (25 km)
After breakfast change of boats! You will reach your next destination aboard a hydrofoil. Trà Bàn is a solitary island still untouched by mass tourism. Exploring the island you will be able to see the water buffalos bathing in the sea and quiet farmers smiling kindly.
This is a truly relaxing place and you will enjoy a pic nic in the heart of nature. A hydrofoil will take you back to your Vietnamese floating hotel and you will cruise to Bai Tu Long bay where you will spend the night.
5. Bai Tu Long bay – Cát Bà Island (kayak day trip)
Say goodbye to your Vietnamese junk boat, while you jump on your transfer to Lan Ha bay. This morning is dedicated to kayak lessons, until you feel comfortable enough to paddle on your own and then off you go exploring this fantastic lush territory full of life. You will reach a white sand beach for your lunch break and you might want to have a swim in this emerald water. Your kayak will also take you to Cat Ba where tonight you will sleep in a hotel.
6. Cát Bà island – Viet Hai – Cát Bà island (20 km)
Today early start and transfer to a small docking area from where you will sail to the starting point of your daily cycling tour. You’ll be heading to a small Viet Hai population native village. A local guide will lead you through the forest so that you can admire and familiarize with the local tropical vegetation inhabited by various exotic animals, such as huge coulourful butterflies. Once reached the top of the hill over the island you will be able to admire the beautiful bay from above. After the descent, get ready to jump back on your bicycle and reach the boat that will ferry you over to the resort where you will spend the night.
7. Cát Bà Island – Hoi An
Today you will definitely be on the road! After breakfast a water taxi will take you to Hai Phong and a bus to the local airport. Today in fact it’s time to fly to Da Nang (flight included) and from there commute to the Hoi An hotel. In the afternoon enjoy a walk in the pictoresque town of Hoi An and prepare for a relaxing evening.
8. Hoi An – Tra Que – Hoi An (20 km)
Today you will have the opportunity to observe local villagers in their everyday life while pedaling towards Tra Que, a small village in the suburbs of Hoi An. The town’s original name comes from a a sweet green typically grown in this area and used to season food. How about having a typical Vietnamese lunch prepared by Vietnamese people?
The afternoon is all yours to have a stroll in the town centre and relax at the Cua Dai beach or maybe the An Bang beach? Overnight at the hotel.
9. Hoi An – Hue (40/45 km)
Say goodbye to the Hoi An coulourful homes and wooden bridges and start your cycling day towards Hue! A van will be escorting you in case you decide to ease part of the journey and jump on. You will definitely need a ride to cross over the Hải Vân pass which marks the border between northern and southern Vietnam. After a pleasant lunch break by the famous Lăng Cô beach, you will be riding along palm trees and quiet beaches. Why not have a swim at the Thuan An beach before you reach Hue? The evening is all yours to venture into town. Overnight in a local hotel.
10. Hue (25 km)
Hue is the imperial city of Vietman and the day is dedicated to visiting this amazing town, situated among rice fields along the Perfume river. 300 temples and pagodas make of Hue the spiritual heart of Vietnam. You will be able to walk its streets and the great citadel that used to be only open to the Nguyen dinasty. In the afternoon you will be cycling in the area up to the Thanh Toan covered bridge. Overnight in a local hotel.
11. Hue – Mekong river delta (20 km)
Morning flight to Ho Chi Minh (included) and transfer to My Tho where the Cochinchine junk boat is waiting to accompany you for the next couple of days through the majestic Mekong area. Relax and enjoy the cruise towards Cai Be, where you will jump on your bicycles and go visit this amazing delta region, made of rivers, small islands and marshes. People and nature are prefectly integrated here and live peacefully together. Handmade craftwork obtained from dry fruits and local woods are the beautiful result of this interaction.
Enjoy another night rocked by rustling water in your floating hotel.
12. Cai Be – Vinh Long and Traon island (30 km)
Today starts with a fun cruise to Vingh Long island, where you will stretch your legs pedaling under its palm trees. You will later cruise on to the isle of Traon and cycle through this island as well. Tonight dinner is on board while you enjoy the sunset looking over the Mekong delta maze. Overnight on board.
13. Mekong delta – Ho Chi Minh
While you enjoy your breakfast on board, the boat will ferry you over to Can Tho, where you will have a chance to visit the most popular floating market on the Mekong delta. A crowd of boats and canoes carry food, clothes and local specialties to be sold or exchanged at the market. Navigation continues to further explore the huge river’s delta and its tributaries. After lunch you will transfer to Ho Chi Minh for overnight stay at a local hotel.
14. Ho Chi Minh
Today you have the whole day to visit and explore Ho Chi Minh, also known as Saigon: South Vietman’s beating heart. A local guide will take you for a walk through its streets. Visit Notre Dame, the reunification palace and the war museum. Overnight stay at a local hotel
15. Ho Chi Minh
End of the tour. After breakfast transfer to the airport or to the city centre.
The itinerary may be subject to unexpected changes before and/or during your holiday, due to unforeseeable circumstances, such as: extreme weather conditions, unannounced road or repair works or law enforcements.
This tour doesn’t require any special physical preparation since the cycling itinerary unwinds on flat terrain. The roads are all secondary, mostly paved. You might encounter some difficulties on the isles of Tra Ban and Cat Ba. Sometimes unpaved terrain and heat can make the riding difficult. Make sure you alwyas bring enough water with you.

Accommodation and meals
The tour includes:

No cycling on the first day.
Your boats will be:
Garden Bay 2 (Ha Long and Bai Tu Long Bay)
This is a 5-9 cabin Vietnamese style boat. All cabins are ensuite and have AC. Even though they are all located under deck, they’re provided with large windows so that you can enjoy the view. It’s easy to feel at home aboard this boat: the main salon, cosy and colourful will make you feel right at home. The crew will show you Vietnam’s notorious hospitality.
The Cochinchine (Mekong-Delta)
Its shape is reminiscent of the traveling barques of the famous river delta in southern Vietnam.
This comfortable wooden boat is 27 m long and 6.5 m wide and has 10 completely wood-paneled double cabins with double or two single beds. Each cabin has a tiled bath with shower and WC.
There is, of course, also a large sundeck with padded deckchairs – probably the best place to experience first hand the lively activities in the many tributaries of the Mekong Delta.
Bikes and accessories
On this tour you will be cycling on different trails and using different types of bicycles. In the Halong bay and in Mekong you will ride 27 gear bikes, provided with trekking tyres and cushioned fork, but no rack.
On the rest of the tour you will utilise simple bicycles becasue the roads will be paved and they will just take you to points of interests.

Bike helmets are mandatory on this tour. We generally don’t rent them for safety and hygiene reasons, so we suggest you bring your own.
