What awaits you

A biking week that pleases everyone, both experienced cyclists and those new to cycling vacations. The route is mostly flat with a few short climbs, and is on bike paths or low-traffic secondary roads. Longer stages can be shortened by taking the train. Care should be taken when entering and leaving cities, as there may be a bit more traffic, especially near Verona and Vicenza.

1. Arrival in Bolzano, "Gateway to the Dolomites"

Individual arrival and overnight in Bolzano, bilingual city (Italian and German) and the capital of South Tyrol. Always a crossroads of trade between the Mediterranean and Central Europe, Bolzano is now an important commercial and tourist center and boasts a perfect balance of innovation and tradition. If you haven’t already done so, visit Ötzi, the world’s oldest mummy, at the city’s Archaeological Museum. If you are more fascinated by modern and contemporary art, don’t miss the futuristic Museion.

2. Pedaling along the Wine Route to Trento

Start cycling along the Adige River bike path, among the famous vineyards of the South Tyrolean Wine Route, one of the oldest wine routes in Italy. With its 4,250 hectares of cultivation, the route accounts for 84 percent of the vineyards in South Tyrol and is home to both internationally renowned wines and native grape varieties. Today you can choose to ride a hilly variant, which takes you to the beautiful Lake Kaltern, or you can follow the entire bike path along the Adige River, which is completely flat. In either case, you’ll continue on to Trento, where you can explore its charming historic center, admiring the elegant frescoed buildings. The city is guarded by the Buonconsiglio Castle, built starting in 1200 and from where you can enjoy a unique view of Trento and the valley below.

Shorten the stage You can shorten the stage by taking the train to Trento at the following stations: Ora, Egna, Salorno, Mezzocorona. Alternatively, you can take the train in Grumo-San Michele all’Adige (line Malè-Trento).

3. Rovereto and Lake Garda in all its glory, from north to south

The Adige River accompanies you to Rovereto, a town famous for its MART museum of contemporary art. From here you leave the valley to tackle the short ascent of Passo di San Giovanni and then the breathtaking descent, which provides spectacular views of Lake Garda and the town of Torbole. In Riva del Garda, you embark on a ferry to reach the southern shore of the lake, enjoying a wonderful, relaxing cruise to Peschiera or Desenzano.

Shorten the stage You can shorten the stage by taking the train from Trento to Rovereto or Mori.

4. Discovering Verona, the city of a thousand faces

Passing the rolling hills surrounding Lake Garda, you’ll meet the Adige River again, and together make your way into Verona, one of the most beautiful and important cities of art in the Veneto region. You’re spoiled for choice when deciding what to visit: Piazza Bra and the Roman Arena, Castelvecchio and its museum, the Church of San Zeno, Juliet’s House… Then finish the day with an aperitif in Piazza delle Erbe and a tasty dinner in a downtown eatery.

If you slept in Desenzano, this stage is 60km with an elevation gain +490m/-495m.

5. Villages and castles on the way to Vicenza, the city of Palladio

Continue into the Veronese countryside, on the slopes of the Lessini Mountains, crossing another important wine-growing area, where among the vineyards you encounter the village of Soave. Take time for a walk in this town famous for its perfectly preserved city walls, which enclose the beautiful historic center with the Scaliger Castle. Then you can choose between two routes: the flat path brings you close to the beautiful castles of Romeo and Juliet in Montecchio Maggiore, while the hilly one leads you through the Berici hills. Either way, you reach Vicenza. An aperitif in the shadow of Basilica Palladiana is a must! Vicenza is best known for the works of Andrea Palladio, one of the most important architects of the Italian Renaissance, who also inspired the architecture of the White House.

Shorten the stage You can shorten the stage by taking the train from/to San Bonifacio, halfway between Verona and Vicenza.

6. Cycling in nature to the Euganean Hills

7. Arrival at the lagoon, passing through Padua and the elegant Brenta Riviera.

First, you’ll reach Padua, an important university city rich in art and history, known for being the city of the three “withouts.” It is the city of the saint without a name because Anthony for the people of Padua is the saint par excellence; the city of the café without doors, because the historic Caffè Pedrocchi was open at all hours of the day and night; and the city of the meadow without grass, because the monumental square of “Prato della Valle” was originally a marshy area. Leaving Padua, following the Naviglio del Brenta you encounter some famous villas of the ancient Venetian nobility. You can admire Villa Giovanelli in Noventana, Villa Pisani and Villa Foscarini Rossi in Stra, Villa Valmarana and Villa Seriman Widmann-Foscari in Mira. You finally arrive in Mestre on the mainland of Venice.

Shorten the stage You can take the train from Terme Euganee-Abano-Montegrotto to Padua, or take a train from Padua to Mestre/Venezia.

For the luggage transportation we accept only 1 piece of luggage per person with max. 20 kg.

Cancellation policy

In the event of unavoidable and extraordinary circumstances occurring at the place of destination or in its immediate surrounding area and having a substantial impact on the execution of the package or on the transport of travellers towards the destination, the traveller has the right to withdraw from the agreement before using the package, without paying withdrawal costs.

By plane

Bolzano is connected with the following airports: Innsbruck: 120 km, Verona: 150 km, Bergamo: 240 km, Venice: 280 km, Treviso: 280 km, Milan Malpensa: 320 km

From Innsbruck airport (INN):

bus line F from airport to Innsbruck HBF train station (approx. 10 min). From here train to Bolzano (possible change in Brennero, approx. 2 hours).

From Verona Villafranca Catullo airport (VRN):

Airlink shuttle bus from the airport until Verona Porta Nuova train station (approx. 15 min). From here train to Bolzano (approx. 2hrs).

From Bergamo Orio al Serio airport (BGY):

shuttle bus Autostradale from airport to Brescia train station (approx. 1 hour). From here train to Bolzano with change in Verona Porta Nuova (approx. 2,5/3 hours).

From Venezia Marco Polo airport (VCE):

ATVO shuttle service/ACTV line 15 from airport to Venezia Mestre train station (approx. 20/25 min). From here train to Bolzano with change in Verona Porta Nuova (approx. 3/4 hours).

From Treviso Canova (TSF) airport:

taxi or Airlink shuttle bus from airport to Treviso train station (approx. 10 min). From here train to Mestre (approx. 30 min) and then to Bolzano, with change in Verona Porta Nuova (approx. 3/4 hours).

By train

Bolzano is the closest train station. For information on timetables and prices you can consult the Trenitalia and Deutsche Bahn official websites.

By car

If you arrive by car, you can park it in Bolzano for the whole duration of the tour. Some hotels have a private parking, while in other cases you have to use alternative car parks. No reservation is possible and you have to pay on site.

Mestre is the city at the end of the tour. From here you can return home.

By plane

Mestre is connected with the following airports: Venice: 10 km, Treviso: 35 km, Verona 120 km.

How to go back to the starting point

By train

This is the fastest solution to return to Bolzano.

There are no direct connections, you always have to change in Verona Porta Nuova. The transfer takes approx. 3/4 hours.

Transfer

Available only on Saturdays and Sundays, and also on Tuesday from 07/05 to 10/09/2024. The pickup is scheduled around 7:00-9:00 a.m. at the hotel in Mestre where you overnight. You will find the exact time on the voucher. The transfer takes about 4 hours.

It must be requested and paid at the booking time.

Documents

If you are a citizen of the EU or of a Schengen country – i.e. most EU countries and four European Free Trade Association (EFTA) member states, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland – you are free to travel to other Schengen countries without having to go through border controls.

Even if you don’t need a passport for border checks within the Schengen area, it is still always highly recommended to take a passport or ID card with you.

If you are a non-EU national wishing to visit or travel within the EU, you will need a passport:

Read carefully

Tour programme variations

Due to organisational reasons, weather conditions or provisions issued by local authorities, the itinerary may be subject to some changes before and/or during your holiday. For example, along the way you may find temporary deviations caused by roadworks, which cannot be foreseen; in this case please follow the indications you will find on site.
In case of strike, bad weather conditions, technical breakdowns, safety problems or any other reason preventing the regular departure of the ferry boat (from Riva del Garda to Peschiera/Desenzano), the ferry boat company can delay, cancel or deviate the navigation without notice.
In case of cancellation the ferry boat service will be replaced by alternative means of transport (usually by bus). The same applies if the ferry boat service is no longer foreseen (for example at the end of the season).

Special diets

If you are vegetarian, gluten-intolerant, allergic to some specific ingredients/substances or if you suffer from any other kind of allergies please indicate it at the moment of booking. We will pass the information on to the hotels, but we cannot guarantee that all dietary requests will be met. Sometimes it is difficult to find particular food, for example gluten-free food, so we suggest that you bring your own snacks just in case.

Travel insurance

It is advisable to take out an insurance policy against expenses arising from cancellation of the tour package, accidents, luggage (loss and damage), as well as a contract covering expenses in case of repatriation. Insurance policies are not included in the tour package offered by the operator.

We needed to end the trip in Venice and it was very challenging finding the bike path from Maestre. We lost the arrows and asked people for the best way to the bike path on the bridge. We ended up crossing a very busy highway. Your directions to Venice could have been better.
