Day by Day
1. London/Greenwich
Individual arrival. Greenwich is a Unesco World Heritage Site, known worldwide for its Royal Observatory, the location of Greenwich Prime Meridian, marking the time for the whole world (GMT).
2. London/Greenwich – Canterbury (30 km + train + 10 km)
You will begin cycling along the southern bank of the river Thames up to Dartford, where you will take a train across Kent, the so called Garden of England (1h20 - not included). From Whitstable you will cycle the last 10 km by bike up to Canterbury, home to an important European university and starting point of the Francigena Way.
3. Canterbury – Dover – Dunkirk (35 km + ferry + 15 km)
In the first half of the day you will cycle up to Dover, famous for its white cliffs, where you will board the ferry to cross the English Channel (about 2 hours). Once in France you will ride the last km up to Dunkirk, known for an important battle fought here during World War II, as French and British troops tried to block the German invasion. Today Dunkirk is also famous for its dunes and tens of kilometers of sandy beaches.
4. Dunkirk – Bruges (80 km)
Today you will ride mainly along the North Sea, crossing the French-Belgian border, up to the town of Ostend, a popular tourist destination on the Flemish coast. Your destination will be romantic Bruges, where time seems to have stopped and whose city centre is inscribed on the Unesco World Heritage List. Don't miss to taste Belgian chocolate and beer!
5. Bruges – Breskens – Vlissingen (45 km + ferry)
Let the Flanders region surprise you by bike: you will cycle across a land rich in pastures and historic sites and you will pass the Dutch border, heading towards Breskens. Here you will board a ferry for a short ride (about 15 minutes – not included) up to Vlissingen, today’s destination. This fishing town is home to shipyards and a naval academy.
6. Vlissingen – Dordrecht – Vianen (train + 65 km)
Today you will start with a train transfer from Vlissingen to Dordrecht (1h30 – not included), an elegant river town rich in art, theatre and architecture. From here you will cycle through the Dutch countryside across flower gardens, walled cities, canals and dams, up to the small town of Vianen.
7. Vianen – Amsterdam (65 km)
During your last cycling day you will first reach Utrecht, an old university town vibrant with culture. This historic city is full of medieval buildings, proof of its rich commercial past. Back on your saddle, you fill finally head to Amsterdam, the cosmopolitan capital of the Netherlands, famous for its art and architecture. Cycling is definitely the best way to visit the city centre and to get lost among its romantic canals.
8. Amsterdam
Departure after breakfast.Due to organisational reasons, weather conditions or provisions issued by local authorities, the itinerary may be subject to some changes before and/or during your holiday. For example, along the way you may find temporary deviations caused by roadworks, which cannot be foreseen; in this case please follow the indications you will find on site.
